Sentinel ships, officially Interceptors, arrived in the Interceptor update (4.2) in April 2023. Hello Games’ patch notes describe it plainly: players can “track down and repair a crashed Sentinel interceptor” and claim it for their own fleet. They’re sleek, angular, and they run on purple crystals instead of Launch Fuel.
Here’s how to find one, fix it, and keep it flying.
Step 1: find a dissonant planet
Crashed Interceptors only turn up on corrupted planets, which the game calls dissonant. When you check a system on the galaxy map or scan a planet from space, look for “Dissonant” in the info panel. These worlds have purple crystal growths and corrupted Sentinels. Hello Games’ notes warn about their flamethrowers and long-distance explosives, so bring shields.
Step 2: locate a crash site
The Fandom wiki lists four ways to find a downed Interceptor:
- Harmonic Camp. Find one of these abandoned camps on a dissonant planet and use its terminal. Enter the correct override glyphs to unlock “Locate Dissonance Spikes.” This is the quickest method.
- Corrupted Sentinel waves. Beat wave 5 of the corrupted Sentinels on a dissonant planet. That reveals a Dissonance Spike that marks a crash.
- Carrier AI Fragment. Drops when you destroy a Sentinel capital ship, and can be a Nexus mission reward. Use Search Archive to get a crash site. Fandom calls this the slow route.
- Story encounter. An Interceptor asking for help can turn up as a space encounter. Whatever you answer, it warps away and leaves a trail to its crash site.
Destroying a Dissonance Resonator can also drop an Echo Locator, a device you use to trace a harmonic signal to its source.
Step 3: strip the wreck
Interact with the crashed ship to pull out its damaged parts. You get Pugneum, Salvaged Glass and the Hyaline Brain, and the ship flags its broken Pilot Interface for repair.
Step 4: repair the Pilot Interface
The Pilot Interface needs three things:
| Part | How to get it |
|---|---|
| 3x Radiant Shard | Mine the large purple crystals on dissonant planets |
| 1x Inverted Mirror | Destroy a Dissonance Resonator tagged with Inverted Mirror. Harmonic Scrap can also have them |
| 1x Harmonic Brain | Interact with the Hyaline Brain. It points you to a nearby Monolith that converts it |
The Inverted Mirror is the fiddly one. A destroyed Resonator drops either an Inverted Mirror or an Echo Locator, and the tag under its name on your HUD tells you which.
Bring all three back to the crash, repair the Pilot Interface, and claim the ship. The Harmonic Brain’s in-game text sums it up: it unlocks the ship’s “vestigial cockpit.”
Sentinel ship tech and fuel
Interceptors come with their own core systems. Each one is a Sentinel equivalent of standard ship tech:
| Tech | Replaces | Recipe | Fuel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anti-Gravity Well | Launch Thruster | 1 Inverted Mirror, 1 Crystallised Heart, 170 Pugneum | Pugneum or Radiant Shards |
| Luminance Engine | Pulse Engine | 1 Salvaged Glass, 3 Radiant Shard, 210 Pugneum | Tritium or Radiant Shards |
| Crimson Core | Hyperdrive | 1 Crystallised Heart, 3 Radiant Shard | |
| Sentinel Cannon | Photon Cannon | 1 Inverted Mirror, 90 Pugneum | |
| Aeron Shield | Deflector Shield | 3 Radiant Shard, 4 Inverted Mirror | Self-heals; catalytic elements or Radiant Shards top it up |
The fuel column comes from each item’s in-game description. A Crystallised Heart is the warped core of a corrupted Sentinel quadruped.
Unlike a Living Ship, an Interceptor also takes normal starship upgrades. Hello Games’ notes say these ships “still benefit from the installation of general starship upgrades.”
Tips before you fly off
- Carry Repair Kits. Fixing Sentinel tech needs materials from dissonant planets. Fandom warns you can get stuck if the ship breaks somewhere without them, such as right after a galaxy jump.
- Shop by system. The ship’s look is tied to the system. If you like a style, keep farming crash sites in that system for better stats.
- Scrap the rejects. Fandom notes that claiming and scrapping Interceptors from Harmonic Camps pays well even at C class. Our units guide covers other money makers.
- Expedition shortcut. The Vintage Interceptor is the reward for finishing the Our Journey Continues expedition. See our Expedition 23 guide.

Frequently asked questions
Find a crashed Interceptor on a dissonant (corrupted) planet, take out its damaged parts, then repair the Pilot Interface with 3 Radiant Shards, 1 Inverted Mirror and a Harmonic Brain. You can then claim the ship.
Use the terminal at a Harmonic Camp on a dissonant planet. Enter the correct override glyphs and pick Locate Dissonance Spikes. Beating wave 5 of corrupted Sentinels on a dissonant planet also reveals a crash site.
Interact with the Hyaline Brain you took from the crash. It points you to a nearby Monolith, which turns it into a Harmonic Brain.
Yes. Hello Games' patch notes say player-owned interceptors use their own core technologies but still benefit from general starship upgrades.
Only by picking the system. The Fandom wiki notes the ship's look is tied to the system it's found in, so repeat crash sites in one system give the same style with different stats.
