No Man's Sky Cosmos Update: Stations & Salvage

What Cosmos 7.0 adds: station director, alliances, derelict hulks, and the deep-space salvage loop.

Cosmos is update 7.0. You direct a space station, join an alliance, build in orbit, and strip wrecks that can blow up on you. This is the loop, not a patch-note dump. Rendering, DLSS, and bugfixes stay on the official page.

Fandom’s Update 7.00 stub dates the PC release to 9 September 2026. The official notes do not print that date.

What the Cosmos update is

A new class of space play, sitting next to the planetary stuff you already have. The Gravitino Coil still does the waste job from Remnant. Cosmos also uses it in open space. The Corvette gets a Tractor Beam so you can haul what the Coil pulls in.

Points of interest show up on a new star system map once a save has reached the Space Anomaly. There is a short tutorial mission called Signals.

Become a space station director

Official notes: prove yourself to the local authorities, then you can direct a station.

They do not say what that proof is. No quest name, no standing number, no item. Until that is in the extracted data, do not treat a Station Override or any old curiosity as the key. Those are different objects.

Once you are director, the job is decoration and layout. Restyle the central lobby. Move existing furnishings. Add new interior parts. Expand the hangar with extra rooms, then furnish those. Outside, place colossal decoration modules, or strip the ones already bolted on. Unlock most of those modules at the Construction Research Terminal on the Space Anomaly. Rare pieces can also drop from deep-space anomalies.

Alliances

A director can found an alliance, pick a name, and set a banner. Everyone else joins by visiting a station that alliance already owns. You can belong to three at once.

The teleporter lists allied systems. Rankings sit at the station core. Official notes grade alliances by member activity: population, activity, and how much space they cover. No reward table is published.

The star system map

Open it from the Quick Menu. It shows planets, the station, and deep-space points of interest in the current system. Mark one and the ship will help you fly there.

Official points of interest: rocky and icy asteroid belts, inhabited and infested outposts, hulks, debris fields, asteroid platforms, and the star itself. The star is reachable. It is also lethal. Fly there if you want a story. Do not fly there if you want the ship back.

Asteroid belts and ice fields attract miners, traders, and pirates. Infested outposts are wrapped in biological goop. Official notes name Pathogen Sacs and Gelatinous Fibres there. Other named salvage includes Comet Dust, Contaminated Metal, and Condensed Stellar Ice. Process those at an outpost. The notes do not give recipes or sell prices.

Outposts have a quartermaster and a salvage and delivery terminal. Contracts are the standing loop. The Dream Aerial is now a reusable product you can craft and burn more than once to find a living frigate. During Starbirth, the Living Ship patrols infested outposts.

Derelict hulks

These are not derelict freighters.

The old freighter job is still the Emergency Signal Scanner, the sealed airlock, the crew logs, and the engineering terminal. Cosmos hulks are a different wreck. Colossal, drifting, spacewalk only. Official notes: rusted chambers, narrow chokepoints, technologies and cargo in the skeleton. Structural integrity fails if you strip too much. The wreck can melt down and explode.

Hulk cargo includes things like Industrial Salvage. Loot the valuable stuff first. Then leave.

The salvage loop

This is the recipes-site part.

Official notes: a Gravitino Coil and a Corvette with a Tractor Beam. The beam is a new Corvette utility part, bought with the other Corvette parts at the station workshop. Coil handling got a pass, and you can now equip the Coil inside a space station. How to craft the Coil is on that item page, and the planetary waste use is in the Coil guide.

In space, launch salvage at the beam. It lands in the Corvette hold. Objects that are too big get processed down so they fit. The beam can also vent the whole hold in a few seconds. Official note, and a good one: do not vent that on sentient objects.

Haul the load to a deep-space outpost. Process it there into items you can sell on the Galactic Trade Network, or keep for station construction. That is the whole published loop. No unit rate, no refine table, no “best” material. If those show up in extracted data later, they belong on item pages, not guessed here.

Orbital bases

You can claim empty space, or start on a rock platform already floating out there. Official notes add a Deep-space Base Computer and a set of new corridor parts for those builds. The rest of the existing base-part list is still the interior kit, including inside a station you direct.

Spacewalking

Any ship can dump you into space now, not only a Corvette. Quick Menu, eject. Spacewalking has roll, so it is actual six-degree movement, not a swim in a straight line. Explosions knock you back. Open space drains cold protection unless you are next to some other hazard, like a star.

Landing on and taking off from objects that have gravity in space is cleaner. That is the official line. No new jetpack upgrade is named.

Our Journey Continues

Expedition 23. Official notes: about six weeks, one milestone per era of the game since launch. Each one has developer commentary read by Sean Murray. Once unlocked, those notes stay in Collected Knowledge.

Rewards they list: framed book-cover art, decals and titles, a golden Rasamama S36, an astronaut cockpit figurine, the Starbound v0.27 Multi-Tool, a vintage Sentinel Interceptor, and a diplodocus companion pulled from pre-release footage. This post is not the expedition walkthrough. The milestones are not published as a checklist here.

Twitch Drops run Thursday 10 September to Monday 14 September. Connect on the Twitch Drops page if you want them. Watching is not required to do the salvage loop.
